Angel H. Bermudez
Executive Director & Founder
Angel H. Bermudez has worked in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector across the United States for the past 25 years, where he has used his industry experience to partner with various funds and foundations, primarily focusing on the field of workforce development. Angel is passionate about bringing attention to this field because it is the key to creating lasting jobs for individuals and revitalizing communities.
Prior to founding Boston Career Connections in 2014, Angel worked as an independent consultant for the National Fund for Workforce Solutions (NFWS) where he advised the development of Career Rise Atlanta, Career Edge Florida, New Orleans Works, Newark Career Works, and other sites of the NFWS network.
The NFWS is the result of the SkillWorks initiative that Angel spearheaded while at the Boston Foundation for nearly 15 years. SkillWorks is an innovative initiative to address the needs of workers and employers through a collaborative workforce partnership model. It brings together philanthropy, government, community organizations, and employers to address the twin goals of helping low-income individuals attain family-supporting jobs and businesses find skilled workers they need in order to be successful. The model developed in Boston went on to be replicated nationwide.
Angel also founded and chaired the Civic Engagement Initiative, a nonpartisan voter registration and mobilization initiative, as well as MassVOTE, an initiative to register, educate, and mobilize voters in Massachusetts. Over the years, Angel’s other clients have included the Access Strategies Fund, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Council of Foundations, Bank of New York Mellon, John Merck Fund, and the National Immigration Forum, among others.
The results of these various initiatives serve as further proof that it is necessary to implement models based on collaboration and use of existing resources, which is exactly what Angel aims to do with Boston Career Connections.
